2012 CHIMA/CHIMSS Advocacy Day
The 3rd Annual Colorado State Health IT Advocacy Day, a collaborative effort between CHIMSS and CHIMA, will be held in the Old Supreme Court Chambers within the Colorado State Capitol Building this year. This educational event promises a full day of activities that includes panel discussions from executives leading key state-wide HIT related projects, Chief Information Officers (CIOs), and the state legislators that are most involved in healthcare issues. You’ll also have the opportunity to have individual meetings with your legislators as well as enjoy a Capitol building tour, and an evening reception following the day’s activities to discuss ongoing policy-based opportunities. This full day event is designed to be very educational as well as productive in creating long-lasting relationships with legislators to help position Colorado as a leader in Health IT programs that improve the quality, safety, access and cost-effectiveness of patient care. A continental breakfast, lunch and a social reception are all included in the registration free. Lunch and the reception will be held at The Denver Scottish Rite Consistory across the street from the Capitol.

AHIMA Webinar/ CHIMA Coding Roundtable Teleconference Series
Coming in September and October 2011!
Register Now!
The CHIMA Data Quality Committee is pleased to offer AHIMA webinars and Coding Roundtable Teleconferences to the membership this year . For the fall, we are offering two important aspects of ICD-10 Preparation:
Tuesday, September 27th: "From Point A to ICD: Successfully Implementing ICD-10"
teleconference 2 - 3 PM
Tuesday, October 25th: "ICD-10 Prep: Assessing Coders' A&P Proficiency"
teleconference 2 - 3 PM
September webinar/roundtable. This presentation has an outstanding faculty, including the AHIMA team that has been instrumental in ICD-10 training (Sue Bowman, our own Kathryn Devault from Colorado!, Anita Majerowicz, Ann Barta, and Ann Zeisset) plus Bernice von Saleski, corporate coding manager for Partners HealthCare System in Boston, a large multi-hospital system including Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital. No matter where you are in your implementation plan or what position you hold in your organization, you will find something in here to add to your to-do list. A complete planning and implementation template is presented, Partners HealthCare experience is described, and an enormous listing of resources, many of them free, are listed at the end. Whether you are a large system with existing implementation teams in place or a small hospital or practice that may not yet have gotten off the ground, you will find ideas and tools to help you. This webinar was originally broadcast in March of 2011.
October webinar/roundtable. This presentation is presented by Karen Youmans in conjunction with 3M. We have all heard over and over that a better understanding of anatomy and physiology is essential to accurate coding in ICD-10. This presentation finally gives us more details. The presentation reviews ICD-10-PCS, including root operations, body parts, and medical and surgical approaches, and makes the case why A&P will be so much more important. An example of on-line clinical assessment taken by coders is described in detail, together with actual results. There are many samples of the kind of A&P that coders will need to master. This webinar was originally broadcast in June of 2011.
Don't Delay! Register Now - Click On the Links Above!
Here is how it works:
FIRST, register on-line by clicking on the links above. For each webinar/coding roundtable teleconference, the price is $25. The September webinar provides 1 CE, the October webinar provides 2 CEs and each coding roundtable teleconference provides 1 CE. You may register for only one webinar/roundtable, or you may register for both.
SECOND, after registering, you will receive a confirmation e-mail from CHIMA which will give you the passcodes to access the AHIMA webinars and handouts. The e-mail will also give you the teleconference call number and other instructions.
THIRD, the handouts will be included in your registration confirmation e-mail and you can print them for yourself. View and listen to the recorded AHIMA webinar at a time of your convenience on your own computer. Each AHIMA webinar is about 83 minutes long. Be sure the computer you use has audio capability to be able to hear the webinars.
FOURTH, call into the teleconference roundtable at the appointed time and date. Each teleconference will be approximately one hour. You may put your telephone on speakerphone so that more than one person can participate in the teleconference on your phone line. The roundtables will be hosted by a CHIMA volunteer. This will be an opportunity to share with each other across the state where we all are with implementation and what your needs are that CHIMA may assist with.
FIFTH, complete the on-line evaluation and you will receive your CE confirmation sheet. In order to receive the CE hours, you must view the webinar AND participate in the teleconference.
QUESTIONS? Contact CHIMA Office Coordinator Ann Nowlin at anowlin@cox.net or 785-825-7340.
Webinar/roundtables are subject to a minimum registration number. If minimum numbers are not met, the event may be cancelled and your payment returned.
